Privacy policy
Short version: Nebula has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Your music, its analysis and your settings stay on your device. We keep an anonymous count of what people search for in the Radio and Indie lists and, only if you say yes, anonymous counts of which parts of the app get used.
Last updated: October 2026. This policy covers the Nebula app for iPhone, iPad and Mac, made by Newty Coffee LLC, trading as NewtCo.
On your device
- Your music: songs you add are copied into Nebula's own storage on your device and never uploaded.
- Song analysis: beats, chords, sections and drops are worked out on your device.
- Song memory: a small summary of songs you've heard (rhythm and structure, plus an audio fingerprint used to recognise the song; no audio), at most 3 MB, kept on your device. Settings › Song memory › Forget all deletes it.
- Microphone and Mac audio: when you turn them on, the sound is analysed live to drive the visuals. It is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
- Parental lock: the PIN is stored on your device only as a one-way hash (a scrambled form that can't be turned back into the PIN). Face ID, Touch ID and the device passcode are checked by Apple; Nebula only learns yes or no.
Radio and Indie lists
- The station and track lists, and searches in them, go through our server, api.newtco.app. It fetches radio stations from the open directory Radio Browser and Indie tracks from the open music platform Audius. Radio Browser and Audius see our server, not you.
- What we keep: when you search the Radio or Indie list, we add one to a daily count for the search words (for example "jazz fm: 12 searches on 16 October"). We store nothing else: no IP address, no device or account identifier, no request logs. We use the counts only to learn which stations, artists and genres people look for.
- Our server runs on Cloudflare, which handles the connection and so briefly sees your IP address, as any web host does. We have turned off request logging.
Usage counts (only if you turn them on)
- Off unless you say yes. After a few uses Nebula asks once whether to share usage counts. If you choose "No thanks", or never answer, nothing is counted or sent.
- What is counted: which of Nebula's built-in scenes you load, which visuals you add, which knobs you change and which patch cables you make (by their built-in names, such as "Ink" or "energy to Flow"), and which kind of music source you use (your songs, radio, Indie, the microphone or your Mac). Your own scenes count only as "one of my scenes", never by name.
- What is never counted: your music, song or station names, searches, scene names, anything you type, and anything that identifies you or your device.
- The counts are kept on your device and sent to api.newtco.app at most once a day as one small list of totals for that day (for example "Ink loaded 3 times"), then cleared. We store only the daily totals added up across everyone: no IP address, no device identifier, no request logs.
- Turn it off at any time in Settings › Help › Share usage counts. Turning it off also deletes any counts not yet sent.
- Everything we have counted, searches and usage, is shown as it stands on our Numbers page.
What connects to others directly
- Playing: when you play a station, the audio comes straight from that station's own server. When you play an Indie track, it streams straight from Audius. Those servers see your IP address, like any website you visit.
- Pictures in the lists: station logos are loaded straight from each station's own web server, and Indie track artwork straight from Audius, so those servers also see your IP address when a list is shown.
- Their own privacy policies apply, for example Audius' privacy policy. We receive nothing from these connections.
Purchases
Nebula Pro is bought through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment; we receive no payment or personal details.
What we don't do
- No accounts, sign-in or profiles.
- No advertising and no ad identifiers.
- No tracking across apps or websites, and no selling or sharing of data.
- No third-party analytics or crash-reporting services inside the app.
Children
Nebula has no accounts and collects no personal information, from children or anyone else. The parental lock limits Radio and Indie to stations and tracks a parent has saved.
